TM can tame crime.
Trinidad & Tobago’s Newsday | Thursday, May 7 2009

The Editor: As a concerned citizen, my heart bleeds every time another crime occurs in TT. With all due respects to the various well meaning organisations which have rallied against crime, if we are ever to resolve this terrible ill of our society, I would like to suggest that we must look beyond dealing with crime in the reactive manner that we have grown accustomed to. Rather we must investigate what may be the root causes of crime — what are the factors that predispose an individual to criminal behaviour in the first place. And therein may lie the solution.

In the book, The Crime Vaccine by Jay B Marcus, the author indicates that deviant behaviour results from imbalances or stress (the physiological reaction) in the brain and the nervous system caused by outside influences or “stressors” such as lack of economic opportunities, overcrowding, poor housing, etc.

Whilst it is obvious, that not everyone who may be out of work or live in cramped conditions goes out and pulls a gun on somebody, serious offenders have been found to have high levels of the stress hormone cortisol and low levels of the neurotransmitter, serotonin. Marcus further notes that research consistently shows that a low level of serotonin is linked to aggressive violence.

The main point of his writing is that deviant behaviour is a result of an unbalanced or deviant neurophysiology.

If this is the conclusion, then, is there a scientifically proven and systematic means of promoting balance and integration in the brain and the nervous system—the opposite of what researchers have found to be associated with criminal behaviour? The answer is a resounding yes.

Research has shown that the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM) creates significant physiological changes within the brain and the nervous system. The TM meditator experiences a markedly increased basal skin resistance, blood lactate levels decrease significantly, cortisol levels decreases, serotonin increases, and the EEG brain wave patterns become coherent, among other changes.

TM has been used with great success in the rehabilitation of prisoners at many correctional institutions in the USA, Senegal, and other countries worldwide.

If as a society we wish to create a situation whereby we can live without fear, it is not enough to simply rehabilitate prisoners, but we must seek to rehabilitate our society as a whole, as every individual’s stress contributes to a larger whole or a collective stress in the society. This type of atmosphere no doubt creates a volatile breeding ground for deviant thinking and behaviour.

More than 50 studies published in scientific journals, including the Journal of Conflict Resolution and the Journal of Mind and Behaviour have documented that a group of one percent practising the TM programme has a powerful effect on reducing the collective stress of society and as a result, significantly reducing criminal activity and violence. Further research has also shown that an even smaller number, just the square root of one percent practising an advanced aspect of the TM programme, called the TM-Sidhi programme is sufficient to create this phenomenon.

Fellow citizens and respected leaders, how many more lives must be lost before we seek to adopt this scientifically proven and simple solution for our society? How much more money must be thrown after methods that have thus far failed to curb the scourge of crime?

Proven scientific solution to crime.

As a concerned citizen, my heart bleeds every time a crime occurs in T&T. With all due respects to the various well-meaning organisations which have rallied against crime, if we are ever to resolve this terrible ill of our society, I suggest we look beyond dealing with crime in the reactive manner that we have grown accustomed to.

Rather, we must investigate what may be the root causes of crime—the factors that predispose an individual to criminal behaviour in the first place. And therein may lie the solution. While it is obvious that not everyone who may be out of work or live in cramped conditions goes out and pulls a gun on somebody, serious offenders have been found to have high levels of the stress hormone cortisol and low levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Marcus further notes that research consistently shows that a low level of serotonin is linked to aggressive violence. The question then arises: does everyone who is stressed commit crimes? Marcus notes “that actually depends on how you define a ‘crime.’ If crime is only behaviour that the law makes punishable by incarceration or a fine, then everybody who has a stressed inner state doesn’t commit crimes.

However, if crime is more broadly defined to include violation of social order like “flying off the hand” at your kids or your wife, or drinking to excess, engaging in insulting behaviour, conspiring to get even with the boss, or infidelity, then it is likely that everyone with stress gets included.
The main point of his writing is that deviant behaviour is a result of an unbalanced or deviant neurophysiology. If this is the conclusion, then is there a scientifically proven and systematic means of promoting balance and integration in the brain and the nervous system—the opposite of what researchers have found to be associated with criminal behaviour? I was a part a crime
Submitted by Toni on 27 April 2009 – 3:32pm.

I was a part a crime reducing project using group practice of the TM-Sidhi program in Washington, DC in 1993. It was exhilarating to see the changes we helped to create during that time. After the project finished, research was conducted and eventually published. The crime rate had lowered 23% during a very hot summer where it was expected to rise dramatically. A good page to look at for comprehensive information on this project and other research on what is called the Maharishi Effect is http://www.mum.edu/m_effect/

Evil has not fallen out of fashion. Exorcism is a rite developed — and promulgated — to meet a need that still exists, due to more people delving into New Age and occult practices.

And, yes, satanic worshippers are a reality.

“They come in the church and steal the Blessed Sacrament to use in a ‘black mass,’” explained Father Gary Thomas, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga, Calif., and the exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose.

He has alerted his fellow priests to this danger — and trained his extraordinary ministers of holy Communion so that they note whether people receiving Communion are actually consuming it, not simply transporting it elsewhere for obscene purposes.

Father Thomas, a priest for 28 years, has even addressed people who appear not to be consuming the Eucharist.

“If I don’t know them, I’ll say, ‘Excuse me, will you please finish consuming the body of Christ in my presence?’” he said.

Father Thomas — the subject of the book The Rite and the 2012 movie of the same name — was one of a half dozen exorcism experts to speak at the Southern California Renewal Communities’ Catholic Renewal Convention held Labor Day weekend in Anaheim, Calif.

In addition to the workshops on healing, the Holy Spirit and prayer, the convention offered two tracks called “Christ Triumphant,” which focused on exorcism and deliverance ministry — a general track and a pastoral track for clergy and lay ministers.

The day preceding the convention, organizers also hosted a “mini-conference” for 175 registered priests and three bishops featuring the expert speakers (among them four active exorcists and one retired exorcist).

Which begs the question: Is exorcism simply a hot topic — or has the need for the rite grown?

It’s certainly a popular subject. The Rite was one of a handful of movies about exorcism released in the last two years, and a short-lived television series on the subject also launched. But that’s far from the point, says Father Thomas.

“There is a greater need for exorcism because there is a greater frequency of the practices of the occult, New Age and Satanism, both on the part of Catholics and other people alike,” he said. Conference speakers explained that  people begin experimenting with other traditions and rituals, often simply out of curiosity. They don’t realize that they are, at the same time, losing their spiritual center and turning away from God.

That being said, exorcists are quick to state that most of the people who come to see them are not possessed.

Father Jeffrey Grob, exorcist for the Archdiocese of Chicago, declines to give numbers of people who come to see him — or people he has exorcized — but says simply, “I see far more people than I need to see.”

Like Father Thomas — who says the vast majority of people who come to see him are dealing with mental-health issues, not issues of possession — Father Grob says that most people who hope to call upon his exorcism expertise are actually dealing with psychological issues, or even with a faith life that has gotten off track.

“Spiritually speaking, they don’t need an exorcist. They need their parish priest; they need a spiritual director,” he said. “They need someone who will get them back in the practice of their faith — bring them back to reality.”

After all, he points out, even if a person is not actually possessed, a focus on darkness and evil can draw him into horrifying actions, even including satanic worship and ritualistic murder.

One example comes quickly to Father Grob’s mind: the 1980 murder of Sister Margaret Ann Pahl, a high-profile crime in Toledo, Ohio. The nun had been strangled and stabbed multiple times in the chapel of a hospital, which she was preparing for the Easter vigil Mass. When the case was reopened in 2003, the hospital chaplain — Father Gerald Robinson — was charged with her murder, and evidence of a cult of ritualistic satanic abuse was uncovered. Father Grob was called as an expert witness to answer questions about cult activity and satanic worship.

“It’s proof positive how far afoul things can go,” he says. “It’s so unbelievable — people don’t want to think about it.

“But things like this happen.”

Those attending the “Christ Triumphant” tracks of the recent convention were not hoping for sensational “Amityville Horror”-style stories. On the contrary, many said they have already experienced the presence of evil and have no need of corroborating stories from others. They simply want to learn how they can help in this important work. (Exorcists can only be priests, but laypeople can take part in the ministry by joining a prayer team or supporting the diocesan exorcist in other ways. Father Thomas, for instance, works with a medical doctor, a clinical psychiatrist and a psychologist as he discerns whether a “client” is suffering from a demonic possession or from a mental or physical disorder.)

“I want the tools to be able to pray for people I feel are being afflicted,” said Jean Cordero, a parishioner at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach, Calif., who listened raptly to Father Thomas’ opening-day presentation.

Similarly, Father Art Najera — currently working in the Diocese of Sacramento, Calif. — attended the convention to gain knowledge he expects to find useful as he ministers in his parish. People sometimes call to request their houses be blessed because they are experiencing strange phenomena there, he explained.

“The reality is the devil is more active now,” he said simply.

Despite the need for exorcism and recent media attention to the rite and the priests who administer it, the number of exorcists is small. There are more than 180 dioceses in the United States, for instance, but only about 60 known exorcists, says Father Thomas.

Speakers at the recent conference noted that not all Catholics properly understand the rite, and many tend to dismiss it as unnecessary.

But one need only read the Bible to see that Jesus himself was an exorcist, casting out demons from those possessed by them.

“It is the Church’s responsibility to provide the rite of exorcism when it is needed,” said Father Grob. “Our work is to return an afflicted soul back to the body of Christ.”

Rite 2

  • First lie flat on the floor, face up.
  • Fully extend your arms along your sides, and place the palms of your hands against the floor, keeping the fingers close together.
  • Then, raise your head off the floor, tucking the chin against the chest. As you do this, lift your legs, knees straight, into a vertical position. If possible, let the legs extend back over the body, toward the head; but do not let the knees bend.
  • Then slowly lower both the head and the legs, knees straight, to the floor.
  • Allow all the muscles to relax, continue breathing in the same rhythm.
  • Breathe in deeply as you lift your legs and breathe out as you lower your legs

Rite 3

  • Kneel on the floor with the body erect. The hands should be placed against the thigh muscles.
  • Incline the head and neck forward, tucking the chin against the chest.
  • Then, throw the head and neck backward, arching the spine. As you arch, you will brace your arms and hands against the thighs for support.
  • After the arching, return to the original position, and start the rite all over again.
  • Breathe in deeply as you arch the spine, breathe out as you return to an erect position
  • Sit down on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and your feet about 12 inches apart. With the trunk of the body erect, place the palms of your hands on the floor alongside the buttocks.
  • Then, tuck the chin forward against the chest.
  • Now, drop the head backward as far as it will go. At the same time, raise your body so that the knees bend while the arms remain straight. The trunk of the body will be in a straight line with the upper legs, horizontal to the floor.
  • Then, tense every muscle in the body.
  • Finally, relax your muscles as you return to the original sitting position, and rest before repeating the procedure.
  • Breathe in as you raise up, hold your breath as you tense the muscles, breathe out completely as you come down. Continue breathing in the same rhythm as long as you rest between repetitions.
Rite 5
  • When you perform the fifth rite, your body will be face-down to the floor. It will be supported by the hands, palms down against the floor, and the toes in a flexed position.
  • Throughout this rite, the hands and feet should be kept straight. Start with your arms perpendicular to the floor, and the spine arched, so that the body is in a sagging position.
  • Now, throw the head back as far as possible.
  • Then, bending at the hips, bring the body up into an inverted 'V'. At the same time, bring the chin forward, tucking it against the chest.
  • Breathe in deeply as you raise the body, breathe out fully as you lower it.

Books about the "5 Tibetan Rites"

Ancient Secret of the "Fountain of Youth" Book 1

Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in Ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelder's book begins with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas. Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and just feeling younger.

Ancient Secret of the "Fountain of Youth": Book 2

When Peter Kelder's Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth was released by Harbor Press in 1985, it immediately touched off an incredible sales phenomenon rivaled only by The Celestine Prophecy and Conversations with God. This is the sequel to one of the biggest health and healing bestsellers of all time.

Almost as quickly as the books filtered across the globe, letters began to pour in to Harbor Press requesting more information on these mysterious rites.

Picking up where Kelder's book left off, Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth, Book 2 provides the complete Fountain of Youth health program, with detailed information on a variety of topics discussed only fleetingly in the original bestseller: the history and origins of the Five Rites, valuable insights about how the Rites work, diet suggestions, and easy-to-follow exercises. Illustrated with fifty black-and-white photographs, this guide will help turn back the hands of time, invigorating and energizing readers' lives as never before.

The Five Tibetans : Five Dynamic Exercises for Health, Energy, and Personal Power

Kilham brings to The Five Tibetans nicely written chapters about kundalini, the chakras and an especially insightful instruction on the role of breathing while doing each rite. Short, straight forward and excellent.

Mon, 22 Oct 2012 06:59:00 -0700 Class Descriptions - Greenville Yoga http://neugentonlineplace.posterous.com/class-descriptions-greenville-yoga http://neugentonlineplace.posterous.com/class-descriptions-greenville-yoga

Class Descriptions

In each type of class, the poses are similar. The sequencing, pace, and class energy differs based on the teacher and their teaching style. Feel free to try all styles of yoga to find one that suits your needs, or mix and match classes for what your body needs in a given day.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a well-preserved, ancient system that is based on a lineage of teacher to student tradition. It is a focus on yoga as the eight limbs of practice, asana (the poses) being just one eighth of practice. Most characteristic of Ashtanga is its fast pace and routine sequence of asanas [poses], designed to be a journey of moving meditation. The practitioner learns to focus and concentrate their energies into three aspects: posture, breath, and gaze. In this class students will learn the sequence of postures that make up the Ashtanga practice as it is currently taught in Mysore, India. This is a very physical practice in a heated room that will help guide you within. The poses are the same in each class so you can feel your body as it progresses through this system. In addition to the sequence, students will learn how to customize postures and for their own bodies so that everyone feels that they are moving forward in their own individual practice.

Empower Yoga Classes (Iyengar Influenced Yoga)

Yoga with Gary Carter & Sharon Farah

£675
(Single supplement £200)

Gary is a well known and respected teacher, founder of the Natural Bodies Centre. He has over 30 years of experience in movement physical training, anatomical study and bodywork practices. He is a yoga teacher, yoga teacher trainer, personal trainer, nutritional advisor & shiatsu practitioner.

Focusing on movement and hands-on bodywork has proved time & again to be a potent blend of practices to assist his clients & students not only to find health, poise & balance in their bodies but also to ease & deal with pain & in injury be it acute or chronic conditions.

Born in Brazil to English parents, Sharon has lived in London for 20 years. She discovered yoga 13 years ago and has been teaching since 2002. With both Iyengar and Scaravelli influences in her practice and a particular interest in anatomy of movement, Sharon doesn’t teach one particular style of yoga, preferring to encourage students to experience and explore movement and postures through the release of tension and the use of the breath, and to challenge themselves physically and mentally, listening to their bodies, unravelling the tensions and torsions created by our day-to-day lives, allowing space for the body to rediscover its natural balance.

The morning session will be exhilarating and challenging. We will start off by going within and calming the mind with meditation, affirmation and breath work in order to shift our awareness to where we are in the moment and then move into fun, flowing asana sequences, to recharge and purify the body and mind.

Afternoon sessions will be restorative and inquisitive, revealing a completely different way to approach the asanas, playing with gravity, creating the conditions for the body to "undo".

Yoga with Nancy Walton and Jan Holttum

£495
(Single supplement £195)

Nancy has studied with Jenny Beeken of The Inner Yoga Trust for over twenty five years, and has been teaching for over 20 years, as well as leading several successful retreats at Huzur Vadisi.

Inner Yoga is movement from the core of our being. The body has the intelligence to know how it needs to move. The classical yoga postures, the asanas, originally developed from this intelligence. The structure developed for the asanas is known as Hatha Yoga. Inner Yoga takes these classical asanas, together with the philosophy of yoga and its spiritual aspects, and teaches them in a way that can transform the body, mind and emotions, touching the heart of our being.

This teaching asks you to be open, to experiment, to practice, and to take yoga into your life. When yoga is taken in this spirit it brings you the ability to remedy all sorts of imbalances in the body, mind and spirit. Ours is not a Yoga of regimented shapes, more an encouragement of each individual on a journey towards movement and vitality.

Jan has been practicing yoga for 43 years and teaching for 18. She studied with John Davies for her British Wheel of Yoga qualification and Paul Harvey for aYs (formerly Viniyoga). She is the Chair of the Southampton Yoga Association. Jan’s yoga teaching is a combination of several traditions and her long experience. She teaches both beginners and experienced students, and all levels are welcome during this week.

For further information or to book please contact Nancy Tel: 01489 893564 or by email on 01489893564@talktalk.net

Yoga with Audrey Tom and Fiona Harding

£645
(single supplement £200)

Audrey has been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching for 10 years. She holds a diploma from the British Wheel of Yoga and the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation in Chennai, India, where yoga ( harmony of mind, body and breath ) is used as a tool in healing / therapy. She is also influenced by the work of Vanda Scaravelli.

As a qualified reflexologist and Thai Yoga massage therapist her work is also enriched by these traditions. With the therapeutic aspect of the Krishnamacharya tradition, (which was usually taught one to one, tailor made for each individual's needs,) and the release based Scaravelli influence, her classes focus on helping to undo deep seated tension so that the heart of one's strength is regained thus freeing the body and breath and as a result the mind becomes more focused and clear, regaining a sense of vitality, joy and lightness.

Fiona has been practicing yoga for 22 years and teaching for 8 years. She has her diploma through Yoga Academy with Simon Low, which is recognized by the British Wheel of Yoga. She has also studied and trained in Anusara yoga, as well as regularly attending workshops and courses with leading international teachers. Her teaching style is inspired by the work of TKV Desikachar, BKS Iyengar and Vanda Scaravelli. Fiona's classes focus on a moving meditation with some dynamic postures, allowing the body to feel energized yet relaxed, the mind alert while still, and with awareness on the breath to be calm yet fluid. Allowing body, mind and breath to become one, through the practice of pranayama, asana and relaxation.

This week will be a great opportunity to benefit from the combination of their skills and approaches to yoga. There will be two 1.5 hr sessions, 8am and 5pm, with either Audrey or Fiona assisting, depending on who is teaching.

Jivamukti Yoga with Anja Kuhnel and Dechen Thurman

Early bird rate by May 31st: €1.107
Regular rate after May 31st: €1.206

Jivamukti Yoga is a method of yoga that was created by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984, which reintegrates the physical, philosophical and spiritual aspects of Yoga. The emphasis in the west has been on Yoga as mostly a physical practice. More and more people are achieving firmer bodies through regular yoga classes. But many are finding something more: what starts out as a purely physical practice creeps into the hearts and minds of even the least spiritual practitioners.

Jivamukti Yoga offers vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating yoga classes. Classes include Vinyasa (flowing asana sequences), hands-on adjustments, Pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, Sanskrit chanting, Yogic philosophical teachings and deep relaxation. To keep the practice inspiring, asana sequences are ever-changing. with music playing an integral role in the class.

Anja is a Certified Advanced Jivamukti Teacher and director of Jivamukti Berlin. She began her studies with Jivamukti in New York in 2000 with Jivamukti founders David Life and Sharon Gannon.

Dechen is a certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, having been introduced to Jivamukti at the age of 19. He is also an accomplished actor, brother to Uma Thurman. Their father is Robert A.F. Thurman, Jey Tsong Khapa scholar of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University, the first westerner to be accepted into the Tibetan Monastic community. Jivamukti Yoga was instrumental in bringing Dechen home, so to speak, back to his family's deep roots in Buddhism.

Yoga for Life with Tuesday McNeill and Marc Woolford

£565
(Single supplement £120)

Yoga teaches us how to live a life of balance in a world of constant change. A week of dedicated yoga practice in the heart of nature makes Huzur Vadisi the perfect antidote to 21st century living. We will learn how to combine the physical aspects of posture work with an exploration of yoga's potential for cultivating self-awareness through asanas, breath work, movement enquiry, mindfulness practices and relaxation techniques. As you learn to understand your thoughts, feelings, physical habits and reactions on the yoga mat, you can begin to apply what you discover to everyday life.

Tuesday has been teaching for 18 years and practicing for 23. Her open and down-to-earth approach makes the practice accessible to everyone. Her main influences are from Iyengar, Scaravelli and Sivananda traditions of yoga. Her sessions will focus on asana work to encourage ease of movement and freedom for the breath in preparation for the subtle practices of pranayama and meditation.

Marc Woolford is deeply committed to the path of yoga as the way to reconnect with the natural freedom of moving and breathing that is our birthright. Inspired by Vanda Scaravelli, Feldenkrais, Qigong and other bodywork disciplines, Marc brings an extraordinary sensitivity and depth of insight to his teaching. By encouraging an exploration of what’s going on beneath the surface of each movement, his approach offers students the opportunity for whole-hearted engagement in the process of self-enquiry that starts on the mat but doesn’t end there.

Bikram Yoga with Michele Pernetta

£899
(Single supplement £195)

Bikram Yoga is a system developed by Bikram Chaudhury, described as ‘the best yogi of the 20th century’ by Swami Shivananda. It is a fun and challenging series of 26 postures, which are normally practiced in a hot room - at Huzur Vadisi the August weather will supply the necessary heat which allows muscles, ligaments and joints to perform at their optimum, and allows deep changes and healing to take place. It also promotes sweating to flush toxins from the body. The class is suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced, as each student works to their own level, and is aided by the famous Bikram ‘posture clinics’ in which students are guided individually to deepen their practice, or to heal particular injuries.

Michele came to Bikram Yoga when, as a martial arts instructor living in Los Angeles, she seriously injured her knee. She was so impressed by her recovery using the method that she went on to study with Bikram Choudhury himself for four years, and has been teaching for nine years. Michele has opened the first three Bikram centres in London. This is her ninth year at Huzur Vadisi.

Wild at Heart: a yoga & writing retreat with Hilary Brown and Geertje Couwenbergh

Twin or double accommodation £575
Triple accommodation £530
Single accommodation £725

An opportunity to uncover your naturally wild and compassionate heart during a week of fearless fun! Under the guidance of two dedicated teachers, you will explore how the paths of yoga, writing and meditation can truly wake you up to your life.

Expect two yoga sessions most days, afternoons and evenings sprinkled with writing opportunities, guided meditations, heartwarming workshops, delicious veggie cuisine and lots of free time to relax, write and wander around the beautiful landscape. In early October, the warm sunny days in Turkey offer the best time to enjoy the great views all around, and open your heart all the way from the mountains to the sea.

Feeling more like doing yoga than writing, or vice versa? No problem. In addition to the main program, Hilary and Geertje will offer different activities and workshops like dream interpretation, mindful walks, writing adventures and dancing. This way you can flavour your retreat just the way you want.

The main yoga style that is practiced during this retreat is Vinyasa, a term that means “breath-synchronized movement.” It is a principle that when applied with intent and intelligence, can create a powerful experience of opening your mind and heart. The writing exercises are aimed at uncovering your wild heart and beginner’s mind. This type of writing practice isn’t goal oriented and you won’t have to share your writings with others –unless you want to.

Be sure to return home with a fearlessly kind heart and a revolutionary mix of practices that benefit both yourself and others.

Hilary Brown, E-RYT 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, Yoga Alliance US), is the founder of Yoga Moves in The Netherlands. A native Californian, Hilary has studied and practiced many forms of yoga, healing arts, massage & bodywork and dance. Her style is deep and playful, honest and intense. Her classes are always fresh and new, following the seasons, the climate and the mood of her students, yet the basis is always grounded in deep alignment and form. She will encourage and support you to find new ways of looking at the body, breath and life!

Geertje Couwenbergh is a cultural anthropologist, writer, yogi and Buddhist practitioner. She writes and teaches workshops internationally and is the creator of WROGA, a combination of writing, yoga and meditation. She is the author of three books, among which ZIN: Lust for Life Through Writing, and HARTCORE that inspire her contribution to this retreat.
