Jonathan Smiedt - Welcome to the Your Yoga Space
Jonathan Smiedt
200 Hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher
"Having passionately enjoyed a broad spectrum of sports until my early twenties, followed by a few years of martial arts, I then discovered the great gift of Yoga. The latter was on the suggestion of my late Guru, Sri Mamua Devi. Little did i know what was to follow.
Already craving spiritual knowledge, Yoga felt completely natural to me from the very beginning. It was “love at first asana”, from the moment I stepped onto the mat. It swept me forward in a life-long study of self-discovery. I’ve spent many thousands of hours on the mat over a period of more than twelve years, experiencing the joys of many styles of Yoga, such as Hatha, Kriya Tantra, Vinyasa, Anyusara and Iyengar.
It was in Vinyasa that I completed my teachers’ training in 2010, but Hatha will always form the basis of my practice and teaching. While the western world has embraced Yoga over the past decades, its essence is often lost. While I derive tremendous satisfaction from movement in Yoga, such as in Vinyasa practice, Hatha is the core physical and mental expression of Yoga, from which the rest flows. My inspiration comes from the great, authentic ancient traditions throughout the ages.
A Reiki master, and having also received some basic massage training, I know that Yoga is an extraordinary tool for healing body and mind, but that it is fundamentally a spiritual practice. My style of teaching is focused more on sharing, encompassing a sense of freedom within a class structure, allowing practitioners to develop their mental and physical awareness more organically.
The more I practice, the more deeply Yoga facilitates an ever evolving discovery of Self. It’s an unending journey of Spirit, mind and body. In the context of our time, Yoga gives one an essential opportunity to develop all aspects of oneself, and to pause, discover, reflect and enjoy. It is my aim to share the authenticity, infinite benefits and joy of Yoga practice with anyone drawn to it. So “see you upside down”.
Namaste."
