Class Descriptions
Hatha Fusion inspires us through a blend of yoga styles that complement, support and encourage us to expand and express the inherent beauty within through alignment, breath-work and a dedication to the practice. Instructors teaching these classes have developed an overall study of the varies practices of hatha yoga.
Anusara® Yoga is heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring, and yet grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment™ for both the inner and outer body. It is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of bio-mechanics.
Based on teacher certifications, this class is also called
Anusara Inspired.
Yoga Prana Flow moves through poses and sequences that unfold in an inherent harmony and body intelligence. The arrangement of movement is linked to the breath creating a coordinated and complementary mind/body experience that awakens the prana (life force) within. It is intended for students who are already familiar with most of the asanas and principles of alignment, and who wish to build stamina and endurance with their yoga practice.
Pilates & Yoga is a class combining both practices. Joseph Pilates, who later brought it to the U.S and opened his first studio in 1926, developed the Pilates method in the early 1900′s. Like yoga, Pilates mat-work is a total body conditioning method. It incorporates dynamic, continuous movement patterns with a breathing method focusing on stabilizing and strengthening the body’s center, or “core”, along with upper and lower body strengthening, balance, and flexibility. Combining both the different and similar aspects of yoga and Pilates make this a fun and challenging class!
Hot Power Yoga is an active approach to energize the body and mind, we partner dynamic postures with breathing techniques for an uninterrupted practice. We flow through muscular and structural integration to enhance flexibility and endurance. We emphasize balance from our brains to our bones by revitalizing our energy system. The pace of this class is physically invigorating to stimulate our health benefits as well as mental clarity. The room is heated.
Hot Yoga This class is designed for all levels. It’s a set sequence practiced in a 95 to 100 degree room.
Hot Yoga will build strength while cleansing and purifying the body through a specific order of postures.
The order of the postures utilizes the heat to really cleanse the body and allow the student to see their practice grow.
Limited props will be used but, modifications will be offered to accommodate all levels.
Yoga for Lunch is a 50-minute, mixed level weekday class, giving you a boost in the middle of your day. The class focuses on energizing poses balanced with the perfect amount of relaxation to send you back to work or home feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
Prenatal Yoga is a personalized class for pregnant women who are looking to prepare their body for childbirth and for those who have just given birth. Here the emphasis is on opening the body through basic asanas that gently stretch, relax and rejuvenate the body. Moms are welcome to bring their newborns to class. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
Therapeutic Yoga is a class designed for students struggling with a chronic illness, an injury, or just trying to bring movement back into their lives. Poses will be modified as needed, props offered if required, and a good dose of TLC is always present. Therapeutic yoga is a class for all ages and all levels of experience – even if you have no issues, perhaps you’re just looking for a more gentle yoga experience.
Gentle Yoga is an easy approach to a yoga practice that is slow and steady, and incorporates yoga props to support the body to help elongate the spine, open the hips, and customize the poses to suit each student’s individual needs. The class is fitting for students who are new to yoga, students who have physical limitations or are recovering from injury, and students who want to have a less rigorous and more relaxing practice.
Yoga 4 Kids (4-12) follows a holistic approach using “Yoga Calm for Children”, which engages heart, mind and body through its unique blend of physical yoga, social skills games and counseling techniques. It helps kids develop emotional intelligence, communication skills, trust and empathy while nurturing teamwork and leadership skills.
Youth Yoga 11-17
Through playful poses and routines, youth will experience the calming, strengthening, confidence-building, and uplifting benefits of yoga.
Each class incorporates storytelling and positive themes that give empowering messages for youth.
Restorative Yoga uses props to create an environment for our mind and body to relax deeply. A regular restorative practice relieves stress and fatigue, soothes and stimulates the organs, regulates blood sugar levels, calms the mind and brings balance and health into the body. When we relax our nervous system deeply our body can then heal itself, which is the greatest medicine. Most of us live in a chronic state of stress, compromising our body’s capacity to heal itself, inhibiting recovery from an existing illness, such as high blood pressure, back pain, digestive issues, immune dysfunction, reproductive problems and depression. The antidote to stress is relaxation.
Community Yoga Class – In support of expanding yoga throughout our community, we offer this on-going class at a discounted rate. Class is held every Monday & Friday from 1:00 – 2:15 pm. This is the equivalent to any other class except the cost, $10 per class. This is a mixed level class.
What is Kundalini Yoga – “my definition”: Kundalini Yoga is an experience that brings about wisdom – wisdom of the mind, the body, and of our thoughts, words, and actions (TWA!) Kundalini Yoga works on the three parts of being a human: the mind, the body, the soul. It takes care of the body by tuning it up on every level – all the way down to the cellular level! It tunes and touches all. Kundalini Yoga gives the mind the opportunity to see things for as they are – without label or judgement – just for the truth of it. The mind becomes more conscious of being connected to something bigger. Kundalini Yoga tunes the spirit into the higher power that is in us all. It helps us live into our true nature – our Sat Nam – our truth and light and identity. Kundalini Yoga gives us the power to change our lives and start making a difference in our life and the lives of those around us. It is a unique practice, in and of itself, that is incomparable to other forms of yoga. It is the whole diamond where other forms of practice may merely be facets of a diamond. Kundalini Yoga brings the potential that is in all of us up from the dregs of the first chakra and out into our aura. It helps us to know ourselves allowing the path of our existence to show up out of the intuition and wisdom of our decisions. Kundalini Yoga removes inner conflict and allows the self to radiate from within and be HAPPY! It raises our creative potential giving us the gift of a happy, healthy, holy life! That is Kundalini Yoga to me.
Teacher Rotation, a variety of us teach on the weekends. As you come to know us, you will know our style. We offer basic/ intermediate, mixed level and intermediate /advanced classes on Saturdays & Sundays.
Yoga and Meditation
This class will focus on “outer yoga” (physical asanas) and “inner yoga”
(meditation). We will strengthen and stretch our body, making use of Anusara
Yoga principles of alignment. This will prepare us for meditation, the Inner
Yoga that allows us to strengthen and stretch our consciousness. This inner and
outer strengthening and stretching allows us to align with our highest goals in life.
Specialty Classes
Tai Chi is a moving meditation for your health. Modern Tai Chi is approximately 1500 years old with its root starting over 4000 years ago.It is a system of physical exercises based on the principals of effortless breathing, rhythmic movement and weight equilibrium. The slow and fluid movements of Tai Chi require concentration, control, co-ordination and balance. This combination of mental and physical activity works to harmonize the mind, body and spirit and promotes feelings of well being.Additional benefits of Tai Chi are stress reduction, lowered blood pressure, flexibility, improved circulation and healing, balance and peace. It is perfect for those who need a low stress exercise.
Meditation Class/Workshop – Yoga has its origins in a deep human inclination for personal transformation. Key to that transformation is our capacity to change negative patterns and behaviors; central to that change is our own natural ability to focus. Meditation is easier and less mysterious than is often thought. It does not require belief in any particular worldview and encourages you to lighten up around what you believe to be true, especially your own imagined limitations. This meditation class is open to all, and beginners are welcome. It will involve practical instruction, meditation, as well as teachings to support you in your ongoing practice of yoga and life.
Yoga Trance Dance is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga. Beginning with sahaja prana yoga or the experience of prana initiating yoga asanas, Yoga Trance Dance flows into an exploration of free-form, breath driven movement to liberate ones creative life-force and cultivate embodied freedom.
Chanting uses global chants, rhythms, and songs rooted in yogic philosophy to open to a greater universal rhythm and vibration.
