SCHEDULE | DESCRIPTIONS | SPECIALTY CLASSES | INTRODUCTION TO YOGA COURSE
Hatha Fusion inspires us through a blend of yoga styles that complement, support and encourage us to expand and express the inherent beauty within through alignment, breath-work and a dedication to the practice. Instructors teaching these classes have developed an overall study of the varies practices of hatha yoga.
AnusaraŽ Yoga is heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring, and yet grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment⢠for both the inner and outer body. It is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of bio-mechanics.
Based on teacher certifications, this class is also called
Anusara Inspired.
Yoga Prana Flow moves through poses and sequences that unfold in an inherent harmony and body intelligence. The arrangement of movement is linked to the breath creating a coordinated and complementary mind/body experience that awakens the prana (life force) within. It is intended for students who are already familiar with most of the asanas and principles of alignment, and who wish to build stamina and endurance with their yoga practice.
Pilates & Yoga is a class combining both practices. Joseph Pilates, who later brought it to the U.S and opened his first studio in 1926, developed the Pilates method in the early 1900â˛s. Like yoga, Pilates mat-work is a total body conditioning method. It incorporates dynamic, continuous movement patterns with a breathing method focusing on stabilizing and strengthening the bodyâs center, or âcoreâ, along with upper and lower body strengthening, balance, and flexibility. Combining both the different and similar aspects of yoga and Pilates make this a fun and challenging class!
Hot Power Yoga is an active approach to energize the body and mind, we partner dynamic postures with breathing techniques for an uninterrupted practice. We flow through muscular and structural integration to enhance flexibility and endurance. We emphasize balance from our brains to our bones by revitalizing our energy system. The pace of this class is physically invigorating to stimulate our health benefits as well as mental clarity. The room is heated.
Hot Yoga This class is designed for all levels. Itâs a set sequence practiced in a 95 to 100 degree room.
Hot Yoga will build strength while cleansing and purifying the body through a specific order of postures.
The order of the postures utilizes the heat to really cleanse the body and allow the student to see their practice grow.
Limited props will be used but, modifications will be offered to accommodate all levels.
Yoga for Lunch is a 50-minute, mixed level weekday class, giving you a boost in the middle of your day. The class focuses on energizing poses balanced with the perfect amount of relaxation to send you back to work or home feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
Prenatal Yoga is a personalized class for pregnant women who are looking to prepare their body for childbirth and for those who have just given birth. Here the emphasis is on opening the body through basic asanas that gently stretch, relax and rejuvenate the body. Moms are welcome to bring their newborns to class. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
Therapeutic Yoga is a class designed for students struggling with a chronic illness, an injury, or just trying to bring movement back into their lives. Poses will be modified as needed, props offered if required, and a good dose of TLC is always present. Therapeutic yoga is a class for all ages and all levels of experience â even if you have no issues, perhaps youâre just looking for a more gentle yoga experience.
Gentle Yoga is an easy approach to a yoga practice that is slow and steady, and incorporates yoga props to support the body to help elongate the spine, open the hips, and customize the poses to suit each studentâs individual needs. The class is fitting for students who are new to yoga, students who have physical limitations or are recovering from injury, and students who want to have a less rigorous and more relaxing practice.
Yoga 4 Kids (4-12) follows a holistic approach using âYoga Calm for Childrenâ, which engages heart, mind and body through its unique blend of physical yoga, social skills games and counseling techniques. It helps kids develop emotional intelligence, communication skills, trust and empathy while nurturing teamwork and leadership skills.
Youth Yoga 11-17
Through playful poses and routines, youth will experience the calming, strengthening, confidence-building, and uplifting benefits of yoga.
Each class incorporates storytelling and positive themes that give empowering messages for youth.
Restorative Yoga uses props to create an environment for our mind and body to relax deeply. A regular restorative practice relieves stress and fatigue, soothes and stimulates the organs, regulates blood sugar levels, calms the mind and brings balance and health into the body. When we relax our nervous system deeply our body can then heal itself, which is the greatest medicine. Most of us live in a chronic state of stress, compromising our bodyâs capacity to heal itself, inhibiting recovery from an existing illness, such as high blood pressure, back pain, digestive issues, immune dysfunction, reproductive problems and depression. The antidote to stress is relaxation.
Community Yoga Class â In support of expanding yoga throughout our community, we offer this on-going class at a discounted rate. Class is held every Monday & Friday from 1:00 â 2:15 pm. This is the equivalent to any other class except the cost, $10 per class. This is a mixed level class.
What is Kundalini Yoga â âmy definitionâ: Kundalini Yoga is an experience that brings about wisdom â wisdom of the mind, the body, and of our thoughts, words, and actions (TWA!) Kundalini Yoga works on the three parts of being a human: the mind, the body, the soul. It takes care of the body by tuning it up on every level â all the way down to the cellular level! It tunes and touches all. Kundalini Yoga gives the mind the opportunity to see things for as they are â without label or judgement â just for the truth of it. The mind becomes more conscious of being connected to something bigger. Kundalini Yoga tunes the spirit into the higher power that is in us all. It helps us live into our true nature â our Sat Nam â our truth and light and identity. Kundalini Yoga gives us the power to change our lives and start making a difference in our life and the lives of those around us. It is a unique practice, in and of itself, that is incomparable to other forms of yoga. It is the whole diamond where other forms of practice may merely be facets of a diamond. Kundalini Yoga brings the potential that is in all of us up from the dregs of the first chakra and out into our aura. It helps us to know ourselves allowing the path of our existence to show up out of the intuition and wisdom of our decisions. Kundalini Yoga removes inner conflict and allows the self to radiate from within and be HAPPY! It raises our creative potential giving us the gift of a happy, healthy, holy life! That is Kundalini Yoga to me.
Teacher Rotation, a variety of us teach on the weekends. As you come to know us, you will know our style. We offer basic/ intermediate, mixed level and intermediate /advanced classes on Saturdays & Sundays.
Yoga and Meditation
This class will focus on âouter yogaâ (physical asanas) and âinner yogaâ
(meditation). We will strengthen and stretch our body, making use of Anusara
Yoga principles of alignment. This will prepare us for meditation, the Inner
Yoga that allows us to strengthen and stretch our consciousness. This inner and
outer strengthening and stretching allows us to align with our highest goals in life.
Tai Chi is a moving meditation for your health. Modern Tai Chi is approximately 1500 years old with its root starting over 4000 years ago.It is a system of physical exercises based on the principals of effortless breathing, rhythmic movement and weight equilibrium. The slow and fluid movements of Tai Chi require concentration, control, co-ordination and balance. This combination of mental and physical activity works to harmonize the mind, body and spirit and promotes feelings of well being.Additional benefits of Tai Chi are stress reduction, lowered blood pressure, flexibility, improved circulation and healing, balance and peace. It is perfect for those who need a low stress exercise.
Meditation Class/Workshop â Yoga has its origins in a deep human inclination for personal transformation. Key to that transformation is our capacity to change negative patterns and behaviors; central to that change is our own natural ability to focus. Meditation is easier and less mysterious than is often thought. It does not require belief in any particular worldview and encourages you to lighten up around what you believe to be true, especially your own imagined limitations. This meditation class is open to all, and beginners are welcome. It will involve practical instruction, meditation, as well as teachings to support you in your ongoing practice of yoga and life.
Yoga Trance Dance is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga. Beginning with sahaja prana yoga or the experience of prana initiating yoga asanas, Yoga Trance Dance flows into an exploration of free-form, breath driven movement to liberate ones creative life-force and cultivate embodied freedom.
Chanting uses global chants, rhythms, and songs rooted in yogic philosophy to open to a greater universal rhythm and vibration.

Ayurveda
From ayurveda perspective, migraine headaches are due to a disorder in tridosha - the mind-body constitution. Although it is possible to get headaches from disorders in vata, pitta, or kapha, migraines frequently occur when systemic pitta moves into the cardiovascular system, circulates, and affects the blood vessels around the brain. The blood vessels dilate due to the hot, sharp quality of pitta. This, in turn, creates pressure on the nerves, resulting in migraines. Pitta disorders are characterized by the red complexion and eyes, light sensitivity, burning sensation, anger, irritability, and nose bleeds. Liver and blood toxicity are often associated with these symptoms.
So, the treatment involves following the recommendations for pitta pacifying foods, herbs and lifestyle.
Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, and sour or citrus fruits. A pitta-soothing diet is effective both for migraine relief and as a preventive measure.
Preventive Breakfast.
If you are one of those individuals who get migraines at midday, which then subside later in the evening, there is a preventive approach available from ayurveda. It is simple, but effective. (Recommended by Vasant Lad, an ayurvedia doctor.)
First thing in the morning, take 1 ripe banana. Peel it, chop it into pieces, and add 1 teaspoon warm ghee, 1 teaspoon date sugar, and a pinch of cardamom on top. This is delicious, and it will help to reduce pitta and prevent a headache from arising.
Herbal Remedy
The following herbal compound is beneficial in managing migraine.
- shatavari 5 parts
- brahmi 4 parts
- jatamamsi 3 parts
- musta 3 parts
Prepare this mixture, and take 1/2 teaspoon twice a day, morning and evening, after breakfast and dinner, with a little lukewarm water. This formula is designed to pacify the aggravated pitta and help relieve migraine headaches.
Purgatives (such as aloe vera gel, rhubarb, and fennel), liver cleansers (such as bhamiamalaki and brahmi), sandalwood oil on the third eye, temples, heart, and under the nose, medicated oils or ghee, using gudachi, bala, and ashwagandha; fomentation, and saturating snuff are also advised.
Long-term healing includes chyavan prash, brahmi, and ashwagandha.
Other Treatments
Avoid Direct Sun.
Because migraine headaches are predominantly a pitta disorder, they are affected by the hot sun. When the sun rises, its hot, sharp, penetrating rays increase pitta in the cardiovascular system and cause the dilation of the blood vessels in the brain, which results in the painful headaches. So avoid direct exposure to the sun. If you have to go out, use an umbrella or wear a hat or other protection from the sun.
Nature walks
Walks in the full moon and by water; and flower gardening reduce Pitta causes of migraines.
Soothing Nose Drops.
Once a headache has developed, putting about 5 drops of warm brahmi ghee in each nostril will help relieve the pain.
Head Massage
Shiro dhara (hot oil head massage) is also beneficial.
Recommended Yoga Postures.
Moon Salutation is especially good for migraines. Yoga postures such as the Hidden Lotus, Boat pose, Bow pose, Spinal Twist, Palm Tree pose, and Standing on the Toes are also good to combat migraines.
A Cooling Pranayama.
Do a cooling breathing exercise such as shitali. To do it, curl your tongue into a tube. Inhale slowly through the curled tongue, swallow, and then exhale normally through the nose, keeping the mouth closed. You will feet the incoming air cool your saliva, your tongue, and the oral mucous membranes.
This breathing exercise will lower the body temperature, and make the saliva cool. It also helps to quench thirst, and improves digestion, absorption, and assimilation.
If you can't curl your tongue into a tube, an alternative way to perform shitali is with your teeth lightly clenched together and your tongue pressed up against the teeth. The air is then inhaled through the teeth.
Some people feel pain when coot air is drawn through the teeth; keeping your tongue against your teeth will provide warmth and prevent this discomfort.
A Healing Yawn.
When you have a migraine, gently squeeze your earlobes, pulling the ear down, and do the act of yawning. This will relieve the pressure on the blood vessels and help to pacify the headache.
Avoid overexertion.
Migraines from Vata Imbalance:
As mentioned migraines can also originate due to imbalance in vata dosha. The symptoms of vata imbalance are: anxiety, depression, dry skin, constipation, and extreme pain. The recommended treatment is: triphata as a purgative, jatamanshi, brahmi, and rest. Shiro dhara (hot oil head massage) is also recommended.
Migraines from Kapha Imbalance:
This condition is characterized by dull headache, heaviness, fatigue, nausea, white or clear phlegm, vomiting, and excess salivation. Respiratory disorders are often associated with these symptoms. The recommended treatment is: trikatu, brahmi, tulsi tea, inhaling eucalyptus oil, vomiting, exercise, nasal snuff of ginger or pepper. Shiro dhara (hot oil head massage) is also recommended.

For most of us busy professionals, it seems easier to invest money in property than to invest even 15 minutes of the day in ourselves. If investing in property can yield excellent monetary returns in the future, investing in yoga can result in a happy and healthy future.
Picture this. In the morning, we hurriedly get ready for work, reach office, run to finish work, our meetings and all the action items for the day. Come evening and we again run to get back home to start another marathon the next day. But letâs stop and spend a few minutes every morning to relax and calm the overworked mind with yoga. How is that going to give you returns?
With regular yoga practice, the mind becomes calmer, centered and focused. As a result, productivity and efficiency at work increases, success rates are higher. You might be surprised to see how you can end up finishing some work in about one-two hours, which might have taken you double the time earlier. And the effort involved: just 30 minutes of yoga in the morning. You can start with stretching your body with active yoga postures, follow up with pranayama and then go deep into meditation for a blissful experience.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar talks about the importance of yoga for working individuals. âLife needs to be a perfect balance between dynamic activity and stillness. Even if one aspect is missing, life is incomplete.â He also highlights the relevance of Sudarshan Kriya in the lives of todayâs busy youth. In a short time, Kriya provides a deep experience and a peaceful state of mind.Â
I remember a time, when I was extremely busy with work but I did not consider yoga or anything to do with health for that matter as a big deal. I was quite irregular with my yoga practice. And then the effect started showing â I would wake up lazily, skip Sudarshan Kriya and start my race. I would strive to finish the numerous tasks that were lined up for me. I soon started noticing that I could neither finish my work on time nor deliver quality work at the end of the day. Not just frustrated, I also ended up feeling lethargic and disinterested. It was then that I resumed my yoga practice, upon insistence from a friend. And again the results started showing in no time! I could set my priorities right for the entire day and my mind was clear and focused which reflected in high productivity and efficiency at work. Another strange (yet remarkable) change was noticeable in my attitude which turned positive. Life was normal again!
And I wasnât alone. I spoke to a few âbusyâ people like me in the corporate sector to know if anyone else had the same experience and I gathered that yoga did work wonders for those who practiced it regularly. For some, a few minutes of Bhastrika pranayama in the afternoon worked as an instant energy booster. Meditation complements the pranayama in relaxing the overworked and tired mind. Another colleague shared an interesting experience of how she used Nadi Shodhan pranayama as a tool to solve problems when her mind was confused and unable to think. Each time she got stuck, she would simply do a few rounds of the pranayama at her desk and then resume work â this time with fresh ideas and better solutions.Â
And then I approached a co-worker, Harshal Jadhav, an IT engineer, whose working style I was particularly impressed with. I was really curious to find out the secret behind his untiring energy and dynamism at work. All day, I would see him running around, listening and responding to about 10 people at a time, getting things done one after the other. This is what he told me. âI make it a point to take time out in the morning and be regular with Sudarshan Kriya and meditation. This helps my mind stay alert yet relaxed. The best thing is my intuitive ability has become very strong and so I am now able to find solutions to problems faster.âÂ
Harshal is just one of the many working professionals today who have included yoga and meditation in their daily routine. A lot of multinational companies are also waking up to the importance of yoga in improving creativity and work efficiency, providing yoga and meditation rooms on campus.
So now that we have opportunities, either at work or outside, to practice yoga and make a choice for good health, letâs get going. Invest in yourself for 15 days: take 30 minutes off every day to visit a space of peace and deep rest. In time, you might just find that your daily practice has become your lifelong companion.
